Your Time, Your Place (6KCBWDay7)

I can't believe it is the last day of KCBW! I have enjoyed participating and reading everyone's posts.

The question for today is going to make me be totally honest about my knitting at this time. I have plenty of spare time, since I am retired. But I have not spent the time that I should be knitting. But when I do, I knit in my living room as I do not have any kind of a craft room.

So now I am going to set some goals for myself. Here they are:

1. Take time to knit daily
2. Organize my knitting to be able to accomplish first goal
3. Post my WIPs to be more accountable

I would add more, but I think that I need to start slow.

Thank you for an enjoyable week. I hope that I commented on your blogs at least once! I would hate for people to participate and never know that anyone was reading.

Polls Apart (6KCBWDay6)

Today's task is to create a poll about crafting...Mmm!

Okay, I have done a gagillion surveys with Survey Monkey for my job before I retired, so I as going to try to embed one...but I tried at least five times to no avail. So I am going to use Survey Monkey.

Here is the link:

Poll for Day 6

Thanks for taking my poll!

Something a Bit Different (6KCBWDay5)

A Tribute to my Grandmother

Grandma

Untangling lives

Can it ever be done?

Maybe it can

But…

She taught me to knit

She taught me to sew

Her patience and kindness

Completely overflowed

Like fine golden chains

Our lives intertwined

Too difficult to unknot

Forever joined

Why should I untangle

What never should be

I want to remain bound

However…

She’s gone

No more in my life

Forever we’re parted

Until…HEAVEN!

I love you and miss you so much Grandma!

This is my something different...

Bag of Fun (6KCBWDay4)

Oh, to have a "real" knitting bag!

Now I'm not complaining...maybe jealous of someone who has a real bag. I have plastic containers. I really do not have a lot of gadgets or exciting items in my boxes.

This is the top tray of my box. It has stitch holders, cable stitch needles, and a crochet hook.

Under the top tray of my box are all my needles...various sizes and kinds. Circular, double pointed, and straight needles. Nothing special. You can also see my yarn bobbin - one empty and one with blue yarn.

This is a second box I have. In the first compartment near the top of the photo is my latch hook. Below that are my blocking pins, and next to those is my tape measure. Finally is my scissors and more pins and underneath my pins are garment labels. Next to those are several yarn bobbins. At the very top...blurred...are my heavy duty hand needles.

These are two bags that I take along with me when I know I am going somewhere that I can knit.

So...that's my "knitting bag."

Experimental Photography (6KCBWDay3)

Photography is certainly not my strong suit, but here are my photos! I had a lot of fun playing with the different apps.

This was a WIP, but I had to rip it out as I made an error...
I used the Pixlr app to create these two photos.

Here's Pooh helping me with my WIP scarf.

 And Tigger too...another scarf WIP.

This is a finished project. It was a Mystery KAL on Crafsty.

It's All About You (6KCBWDay2)

Knitting-Crochet-Blog-Week-6-Banner

Well, it is difficult for me to talk about me...but here we go.

For 29 years, I was a teacher. Well, almost. My last five years in education I was a Literacy Coach, then a Mentor Teacher, and finally the Lead Curriculum Specialist for Elementary Language Arts.

It was during the last eight years in the classroom that I derived my most enjoyment. I taught 6th grade language arts and absolutely loved it. I read more during those eight years than at any other time. Students and I shared titles and talked about books all the time.I truly miss those times...

I retired from teaching almost two years ago. Since then I have continued to do some things that are education related - long-term sub job, writing curriculum, writing assessments. I like doing these things as they keep me engaged. But I don't think I want to do that forever.

I do have another blog where I review children's books (fortheloveofchildrensbooks.blogspot.com). I enjoy doing this because I like to read...especially children's books. I have a goal to make it truly friendly for teachers and parents to utilize with resources. I really didn't read much as I was growing up, but I hope my blog will provide ideas for parents.

Right now I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird in preparation for the release of Harper Lee's new book that will be released on July 14th.

I love movies...action, comedy, romantic. Everything!

I wish I kept better fit than I do. As I grow older I realize how important that is. I try to walk at least 3-4 times a week, but it is already starting to get very hot here in Texas. It was cooler this morning, so I did go for a walk!

My dream holiday destination is Ireland. My husband and I have wanted to go for years. Hopefully we will someday.

Although I do not have any children (my husband has three), I am a NaNa five times over. Oh wait, six with my husband's oldest daughter's stepson. Prior to him we had all girls.

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up...I will have to keep thinking about that one!
