EXTRA TIME!

Yay! I am so excited...I have been granted extra time to finish my swatches.

So I am going to redo my all rows are knit because it looks a little less tight compared to my all rows are purl. I also started on my stockinette stitch swatch.

Here they are:

Not too bad...huh???

So, big sigh of relief!

Gauge Swatches...Trying!

Okay, so I am truly enjoy being a drama-free person. I have my own routine I follow each day, enjoy my time reading, knitting, relaxing...and yet...

Drama always seems to come knocking on the door...

Anyway, I am working on swatch number two with six more to go to get mailed out by the 27th of June. Wish me luck!

I do not want to give this up, so I may have to ask for a short extension...wish me luck again!

Gauge Swatches

Making a swatch to gauge is so not easy! Maybe that is why I have forgone doing it previously...

Obviously I cannot trust the yarn brand to have the correct gauge...or at last not the one I used. It had 17 stitches in 4 inches using size 9 needles - that was not so.

So I ripped it and am trying it with size 8 needles. Hopefully that will work. I have 6 swatches to complete that require me to knit to gauge, so I am hoping once I have the first one complete, the rest will follow along the same path!

I finished reading Dear Hank Williams. You can go to my book blog to find my review....http://fortheloveofchildrensbooks.blogspot.com

I just started reading A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff. It's another middle grade novel.

Have a great day!

Knit In Public Day

So Saturday, June 13th,  is knit in public day...anyone participating?? I will be in Boerne, and I haven't found a group participating there as of yet. So maybe I will just go up to the Cibolo Creek and knit there for awhile.

After watching the gauge videos on Tuesday, I am going to restart several of my swatches for the CYC Instructor - Level 1 because I think I can do better. Wish me luck.

Learning New Things!

I am very excited to be finished with all the test question writing...although the money will come in handy!

I decided this morning to watch some YouTube videos over knitting concepts I don't know or have just ignored in my knitting so far.

Using gauge to check knitting...I have never done this - ever! So I watched several videos to understand the hows and whys. The videos were very informative to someone who has chosen to never make a swatch in her whole knitting career.

In order to make sure I am growing as a knitter, I am going to continue to watch the videos. I think it is a step in the right direction for encouragement and knowledge.

Here are my links to the videos I watched:

I am still reading Dear Hank Williams. Unfortunately, I am not. But I will hopefully be done this Friday!

Missed Opportunity

It's First Thursday here in Austin. I was really excited to go to Hill Country Weavers because they had 20% yarn today...oh wait...I missed it. I am really sad, but it is my own fault. I was working on finishing this test prep stuff and lost track of time :(

I haven't decided yet about STITCHES Texas. Has anyone out there gone to a STITCHES event. I'd love some insight. There are some great people going to be there, but it is a little pricey. Love some information.

In the meantime, this is going to sound bad, but I am going to study gauge. I have never put much thought into it as I knit. I just assume that what needles and yarn the pattern asks for is good for the gauge. Must be wrong because I have seen many things about gauge. So it is my project to help improve my knitting right now.

I am reading a really great middle grade novel by one of my very favorite authors - Kimberly Willis Holt. It is called Dear Hank Williams. I am about half way through and love it.

I am also reading To Kill a Mockingbird in anticipation of Harper Lee's new novel coming out on July 14th.

That's it for me right now...

Horrible Start After Encouraging Blog Week

Okay, can I just say that I so messed up after my last post I have so fallen short of my knitting everyday!! I just told my husband this morning that he has no time management...what about me???

Several excuses (can't say reasons as they are excuses) exist for my lack of focus...

1. About 13 years ago we had a new carport added to our mobile home. Several times we have had termites (yes termites) in two of the posts. Upon closer inspection of the posts this year, we noticed that the wood was disintegrating at the ground level. Wood and ground do not go together well. So we hired someone to come and redo the posts...concrete halfway down and posts to the top of the carport. And of course I stayed home and had to handle all of this...with the all the rains here in Texas. That was very distracting!

2. I started doing some contract work for a company that writes test prep books. Well, what I thought was just going to be writing test questions and analyzing the answers wound up being more...finding passages. Have you every tried to find a copyright free passage??? Not so easy...yes a lot of government websites are copyright free as they write them for US! But trying to find fiction that is new and modern...or persuasive pieces??? ARGH! I am almost finished!

So I've now vented...sorry :(

Now, on to knitting...

Anyone signing up for STITCHES Texas? Sign up is tomorrow. I have NEVER gone to a knitting conference, so I am so excited. My husband is driving with me to visit some cousins while I am off knitting.(http://www.knittinguniverse.com/Texas2015/)

I am still working on my course through the Craft Yarn Council...my goal is to finish by the end of June.

I have no WIPs otherwise...but that is going to change. I am really looking forward to start knitting some amigurumi. I have wanted to try this for years.

I am also thinking about taking a crochet classes at a local yarn shop. I would really like to learn to crochet.

BUT...I did accomplish one of my goals from the Blog Week. I got my knitting much more organized! YAY me!

Hope you have a great day...the sun is finally out here in Texas!
